It’s a nice way of getting the word out about books you’ve enjoyed and an extra way of saying thank you to the author.
So, here it goes:
1st Step – ‘Like’ the book!
This is a quick one – right at the top of the page, next to the name of the book and the star rating, there is a ‘like’ button. You may need to sign into Facebook.
Click it! This will make the book look more popular and also it will share the product with your friends on Facebook.
2nd Step - Sign in to Amazon.
And then go to the product page for a book you’ve enjoyed by an author you want to support. As an example I’m using my first novel, A Death Displaced:
Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/Displaced-Lansin-Island-Series-ebook/dp/B008AVNB4S
Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008AVNB4S/
3rd Step – ‘Tag’ the books appropriately.
Now, on the product description page for the book there's a section with this title:
Tags Customers Associate with This Product
To help you find it, it's written in orange.
There are tags in this section that say things related to the book. As we are using A Death Displaced as an example, on the description page for my book you will find these tags: 'ghosts', 'paranormal romance', 'bargain book', 'paranormal mystery', etc.
As long as you’ve signed in, there should be a tick box next to the tags that you can click on. This is to say that you agree with that tag.
You can select up to 15 tags, and you can also add your own tags to it if you feel there are other words that are appropriate to the book you have chosen.
The difference this makes for the author is that when people search these terms on Amazon, the author’s book will now be more likely to show up in the search results. What a great way to support authors that you like!
4th Step – Vote for helpful reviews.
Another way to help is: if you scroll down to the customer reviews, at the bottom of each review there's a question that says: Was this review helpful to you?
On some of the positive, well-written and thoughtful reviews, you can select the button 'yes' to vote that the review was helpful. Picking positive reviews (as long as they are appropriate) helps customers in knowing what other people thought about the book – and this helps them decide whether to buy or not.
5th Step – Create a list – Listmania!
You are able to create lists of products that you can share with the public on Amazon through their Listmania feature. For example, your list could be called “My 20 favourite books featuring MAGICAl CREATURES!” and in this list you would add 20 books you’ve read that have magical creatures in.
This list helps promote the author’s work because a reader who has enjoyed a book that has similar elements to the author’s book may find the author’s work through this list that you have created.
Here is how to create a list:
- Go to your Profile Page on Amazon.
- Click “Edit Your Profile” in the top right hand corner.
- Under the Contributions section on your profile, click the tab titled ‘Lists’. Then click “Create your first one now.”
- Then fill in all the required info: Name Your List, Your qualifications (this can just be that you’re an avid reader for example), Introduction (add an optional intro)
- Then start adding products (This is your list. Add any relevant products on amazon, and don’t forget to add the author’s book!)
This type of support from readers really helps authors out - especially self-published/indie authors.
Thank you for reading this post.
