It's been a while since I've posted any updates, but fear not, I am still writing! This is just a quick one about the progress of Book Three in the Lansin Island Series, A Spirit Displaced, and also some other info you may find interesting.
To the left, you can see the eBook cover for A Spirit Displaced. It's a little different to the first two covers in the series, but I think they all look nice alongside one another. The cover might change before the release date, especially if I can get enough money together to get it professionally done, but for now I have to do the best with what I can put together myself. So here it is!
As you may have guessed from the title of Book Three, this one focuses a bit more on the Spiritworld. I wanted the cover to reflect this ethereal quality, to give you the right kind of expectation for the book. I think this cover does the job in that respect.
Progress & Release Date
Writing is going just fine, though I have a tendency to make everything more complicated than it needs to be (like the plot--I can't help adding twists and turns as I go). I'm hoping for a Summer 2014 release date. Nearer the time, I'll be contacting the same beta readers who helped me with Book Two (if any of you are reading this, thanks again--you're awesome!). And if you've read the series so far and might be interested in beta reading, then I'd love to hear from you!
Other Projects (or maybe not)
I'm a slow writer. I wish I could apologise for this, but I've tried so many things to boost my daily word count and nothing has made a lasting difference yet. I seem to fall back into my usual writing rhythm. I'm quite cerebral when it comes to writing, so I think for me it just takes as long as it takes for the ideas to form in my head. I suppose I could write faster if I absolutely had to, but without having put the thought in first I would be producing work that doesn't feel authentic to me, and I think my readers would pick up on that. Also, at the moment, I have some other stresses (not writing-related) and these obviously have an effect on my progress.
A Spirit Displaced is my priority and the only thing I'm spending time writing at the moment. But I'm considering, once ASD is out, doing a companion guide for the series so far. Either that, or maybe adding a kind of wiki section to my website. It would include things like character bios, a timeline of the story so far, descriptions of supernatural beings and paranormal abilities that feature in the series, a map of Lansin Island, a Q & A section, and so on. It's just a thought for now, and not something I would want to make a priority (because moving on to Book Four would be the most important thing after Book Three) but if this is something you might be interested in, then please let me know what kind of thing you'd like to see in a companion guide.
I like the idea of a companion guide myself because the world (or should I say worlds?) of the Lansin Island Series is expanding faster than I thought it would. I'm creating more and more characters and creepy-crawlies, and I'm also beginning to unravel the history of the Otherworld. Of course, you'd find out all of these things by reading the books, but I think it would be cool to have concise summaries (and also some extras) in a book of its own. And a handy table of contents would help you to dip in and out of it.
What are you thoughts?
Thanks for reading,
Hope you're all well!
